Aeri Lee artworks center on Ground Cherries, (Physalis) a Korean symbol of love, wealth, fortune and fecundity:
“In the Orient, Ground cherries symbolize happiness and fortune as well as success and lucky future as they look like traditional lanterns to enlighten darkness.
Resembling mother holding a baby, ground cherry flowers and fruits symbolize also love and fecundity, and last but not least, ground cherries protect human beings from the devil, decorating Buddhist temples.”
I use ground berries to express a connection between modernity and tradition, as ground cherries carry harmony between generations.
I’m using traditional ink to express impacted line and color for ground cherry .
The lines mean harmony in various lives and thoughts of human beings.”
