Impressions of Empty Space
The spaces within my work are created based on the actual spaces in my daily life or where I have lived. The interior spaces of the models are completely empty.
I feel more excitement from empty space than from space full of furniture. Cleaning up vacant rooms after moving out, small shops waiting for the new owner, empty gyms and long corridors and small rooms with windows that once could be used as a hotel.
When I enter these empty spaces, I can focus on the space itself that I may have neglected in a daily routine. The size and positioning of walls, ceilings, windows and entrances reveal the character of each space itself, which creates the space to appear as “organic” creatures like cells.
These spaces are exposed to the light that streams in through the windows during the day and reflect the light at night. In addition, they are exposed to the outside views while reflecting them.
