Kairos: ChaYoung LEE

6 Juni - 5 Juli 2023

Καιρός / Kairos

Following our exhibition in 2019, centered on a meditative vision, Lee Chayoung offers us a more dynamic approach, captured by the Greek word, Καιρός, read Kairos: Seizing the opportune moment, Time to act. The works of Lee Chayoung open outwards, towards action guided by the need to create, time  to illuminate the world.

The opportune moment, yes, but driven by what energy? In Lee Chayoung’s mind, this Kairos is rooted in the Hebrew term חֶ֫סֶד, read Chesed or Hessed, which means kindness or love between people, piety of people, as well as love or mercy of God for mankind.

Kairos, Hessed, in two words the faith of Chayoung Lee, animating this decidedly more dynamic vision, expressed by the small cuts of old Korean Bibles, forming the raw material of these paintings.
